BPL RECAP
DAY 1:
Game one for the Pirates began with our match against the Moreton Magic. After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, Gurnoor Randhawa and Edward Leslie began the innings with a solid partnership. Unfortunately, the batters failed to capitalise on a solid platform and were dismissed for 110 runs. Player of the match went to Eddie Comer of the Moreton Magic who hit 71* from 48 balls, allowing the Magic to chase our total in the fourteenth oval. Dropped catches greatly cost the Pirates in the field.
The Pirates played their second match of day one up against the Darling Dingoes. Once again, the Pirates batted first with another solid opening partnership from Gurnoor Randhawa and the Captain, Tighe Morris. The best performance with the bat however came from Henry Ainsworth scoring an unbeaten 47 from 37 deliveries to help the Pirates reach a total of 155. Dropped catches once again cost the Pirates as the Darling Dingoes opener Connor Walker went on to hit a classy and destructive knock of 88* from 49 deliveries in a partnership with Ayaan Latif finishing with 54 from 43 deliveries. The Dingoes reached the Pirates total in the sixteenth over and were simply too good.
Day 2
After some disappointing results from day one, the Pirates were looking to bounce back in the first game of day two against the Northern Kings. The Kings batted first, setting a total of 117 after a quality overall performance from the Pirates bowling unit. Noah Langley was the pick of the bowlers with his crafty leg spinners going for a miserly 3.5 runs an over and collecting two wickets over his maximum four overs. In reply, the Pirates chased the Kings total down in the last over with Tighe Morris top scoring with 41 and Flynn Zahra hitting the winning runs with a couple of lovely boundaries to complete the run chase.
The Pirates then faced the Waveriders for their final match of the day. The Pirates batted first on what was a good batting surface. The innings began with another quality partnership between Gurnoor Randhawa (30) and Tighe Morris (41) steering the Pirates ship in the right direction. Henry Ainsworth again batted with positive intent with Sam Lewis, who hit a few balls requiring spectators to duck for cover to assist the Pirates to a total of 137. In reply, the Waveriders were always in the contest throughout the entire innings. The match was on a knifes edge until Will Fanshawe delivered three fantastic overs, finishing with figures of 3/11 from 3 overs. Wills bowling in partnership with Henry Mercer, who had his best performance of the week so far with an economy rate from three overs of 4.67 per over, allowed a the Pirates to win back to back matches on Tuesday. The overall bowling effort from the Pirates was excellent and the boys will certainly hope to take some positive momentum into Wednesday’s matches.
