The under 16, 17 and 18 Pirates are off and sailing in their quest for the Brisbane Premier League bounty in 2022.
The 16’s are playing at Ipswich Grammar Sporting fields and had a tough start to their campaign with a couple of tight losses against the Darling Dingoes and the Moreton Magic. They made 155 against the Dingoes with Henry Ainsworth smashing 6 boundaries on his way to an unbeaten 47 from just 37 balls.
But the Pirates will rue dropping the catch of Dingoes opening batsman, Connor Walker who cashed in to score 88 and get his side home.
The under 17’s, playing the Western Power, started strong with the bat out at Redlands with Ben Thallon and Jacob Bath scoring half-centuries as they amassed a big total of 7/189 playing on Peter Burge Oval.
But the Western Power chased them down with one ball remaining thanks to 91 runs from their opener David Skipwith.
The under 18’s had a similar tale against the Power, scoring a winning total of 5/163 only to be run down in the final over. Xabian Mckaymavin was the best for our Pirates scoring 54 runs off 33 balls.
Despite the tough start to the tournament, the Pirates can bounce back over the coming days and remain positive about their chances!
